This native plant is one of my favorites.  I love it combined with Black-eyed Susan, Balloon Flower, Fountain Grass, and 'Moonbeam' Coreopsis.

Purple Coneflower

 Echinacea purpurea

The beautiful purplish-crimson daisy-like

flowers of this plant attract butterflies. The

long-lasting flowers bloom from early summer

until frost. They provide great structure in the

winter garden as well as seeds for wildlife.

Pasque Flower

Pulsatilla patens

This American native plant announces the coming of spring, sometimes pushing up through snow cover.  As the name pasque implies their blossoms often arrive the week of Easter.  The flowers emerge before the finely cut leaves and last many days as the plant develops.  After the delicate lavender flower petals drop the maturing seed head becomes a mass of silvery fluff.
