New England Aster

Aster novae-angliae

These showy violet to pink daisy-like flowers bring color to the garden late in the season and last until the leaves fall.  Native to North America they are a long-lived perennial.  They will grow in poor soil and require only occasional water in dry spells. These

tall plants are great in the back of a border or stand alone.  As cutflowers they will last as long as 2 weeks in bouquets.

Globe Thistle

 Echinops ritro

Echinops is derived from a Greek word for Hedgehog, a fitting comparison for this exceptional plant.  The spiny plant with globular steel blue flowers provides great contrast in the perennial border.  It is drought and heat tolerant.  The flowers make a bold addition to fresh or dried bouquets.
