Commonly known as Jupiter’s Beard, this old-fashioned, hardy perennial is not to be ignored in the garden.  More red-rose than scarlet, Red Valerian’s bountiful flowers will add color to your garden in exchange for very little maintenance.  It thrives in full sun to part shade and moist but well-drained ordinary garden soil.  Essential plant for the cottage garden.
