Cornflower

Centaurea montana

Also called Mountain Bluet and Perennial Bachelor's Buttons this perennial cornflower has large blue flowers on sturdy stems.  These tough pest and disease resistant plants need little care and can grow in poor soil and in hot and dry locations. They can be used as feature plants or in mass plantings.  The cobalt blue blooms are a great addition to fresh bouquets or they can be used in dried arrangements.

Mallow

Malva alcea fastigiata

This entire shrub-like plant is covered with bright pink flowers all summer long.  A great addition to the back of the border, it thrives in hot dry spots and requires no special care.
