Chokecherry berries are highly prized for jellies, jams and syrups, that is if the birds don't get there before you do. May-June brings white flowers that produce red berries that turn purple when ripe. Fall color varies from year to year from bright red to pale yellow.

This long prized beauty can provide structure in perennial beds or can be used as a hedge. Its flowers are very showy, 3 to 4 inches across, and bloom most of the summer.
