How to Plant and Take Care of Bare Root Trees

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Plant all products as soon as possible after receiving them.  The roots of bare root

trees should be soaked in water for 12 to 24 hours before planting. All plants need

to be planted in the garden in well worked-up soil.  Water wellafter planting and

continue to water when dry until the ground has frozen hard.Mulch around your

plants with about 2 inches of shredded bark, leaves, or grass clippings.

Note:  The leaves on your plants may still be green, they might be brown, or they

might have dropped off.  Regardless of how they look the root systems are still

alive and will flourish if you handle them properly.

 Now Follow the Directions Below

This is easy.  Your tree won't feel a thing, it's asleep!  It was dug before it broke

dormancy

1.  When the package arrives leave it sealed until you are ready to plant.  If you

can't plant it the day it arrives, just put it in the refrigerator.  It can stay there for

several days if necessary.

2.  Before planting day, open the package, remove the tree, and soak its roots in

water, evergrees for not more than 30 minutes, other trees (decidicous) should be

soaked for 12 to 24 hours.

3.  In the meantime, dig a hole for each tree big enough to spread the roots and

additional space for the tender new roots to grow.

4.  Plant your tree at the same depth it was growing in its original home.  If you

look closely you should be able to see the difference between the bark that was

exposed and where it was buried.  That's the approximate spot that you want to

be even with the surface of the soil.

5.  Put soil into the hole and pack lightly until it is level with the surrounding

ground level.

6.  Mulch your new trees with up to 2 inches of mulch.

7.  Water thoroughly.

If it rains less than 1 inch per week, soak the soil around your trees to a depth

of six inches once every week.  This is the time when your young trees need extra

moisture.  Once they become established, they won't need as much water or attention.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you reserve multiple units, each unit is packaged

and sent separately. They may arrive on different days depending upon

the location of the workshop that packaged them.
